Department of Traffic Engineering was established in 2002, and it originally is the Urban Transportation Research institute which was founded in 1999 by merging the Comprehensive Transportation Teaching and Researching Section, Transportation Equipment Teaching and Researching Section and Transportation Simulation Center. There are 23 faculty members, including 6 professors,8 associate professors,9 assistant professors. Moreover, this department has one Changjiang Scholar Chair Professor, one Overseas High-level Experts Introduced by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, one Youth Thousands Plan, one government subsidy of the State Council of experts and one Beijing Distinguished Teacher.


Department of Traffic Engineering is mainly responsible for the undergraduate program of traffic engineering and the master and doctoral guidance for the major of transportation planning and management, urban traffic engineering and intelligent transportation engineering. Over the years, Department of Traffic Engineering has contributed groups of high-level professionals to the enterprise of traffic and transportation. Recently, the department achieved fruitful research accomplishments including 2 National”973”projects, 3 National “863”projects, 5 National Science and Technology Support projects and 15 projected founded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC), as well as a number of provincial research projects. In addition, this department also contributed a large number of high-level academic papers in leading journals cited by SCI, EI and ISTP database. At present, the department is responsible for two national excellent courses and two Beijing Excellent Courses, and compiling the National “11th Five-year Plan” Textbooks, Beijing Excellent Textbooks and several undergraduate textbooks, and constructing the MOE Key Laboratory for Transportation Complex Systems Theory and Technology with the cooperation of other departments. In this department, traffic engineering courses teaching team is the Beijing Outstanding Team and State-level Teaching Team and traffic engineering program is honored under the National Characteristic Specialty.

The Department of Traffic Information Management Engineering was established in 2002, which is also a part of Traffic Information Institute, the Research Center of Rail Traffic Intelligent System and Security Technology, as well as the Transport System Simulation Center. Currently, there are 22 faculty members, including 5 professors, 7 associate professors and senior engineers, and 10 assistant professors.


The Department of Traffic Information Management Engineering is mainly responsible for teaching and training undergraduate students under the discipline of e-business and intelligent transportation engineering, as well as graduate students under the discipline of e-commerce, transportation and logistics, transportation planning and management, intelligent traffic engineering, traffic safety engineering, system engineering, system analysis and integration. Moreover, this department has trained large number of highly qualified specialists engaged in the industries of e-commerce and transportation information technology for the county. In recent years, the department has accomplished 7 projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of the Railways and the National Science and Technology Support Program, 2 key Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 5 projects of “863” plan, as well as a number of provincial projects and corporate research projects. In all, the department has yielded fruitful results in the field of e-commerce, traffic information system, traffic safety engineering, transportation complex system intelligent modeling and control technologies. Currently, the department is responsible for 1 National Excellent Courses, the preparation of 2 National Quality Teaching Materials.

Establishment of The Department of Urban Rail Traffic was established in July 2008. A total of 15 faculty members and I Postdoctoral constitute the teaching and research team. The faculty members include 4 professors. 5 associate professors, and 6 assistant professors and teaching and research teams are university level outstanding team.


The department is undertaking the teaching and training tasks for undergraduates, master students and doctorial students of the disciplines of the urban rail transportation, urban transportation and integrated transportation. The department also offers over 20 courses and related textbooks and established a long-term training mechanism by introducing more than 10 well-known transportation expert consultants training guidance. The major sources for our graduates include the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Railways, universities, provincial and municipal planning departments, railway professional design institutes, municipal and design institutes, railway bureaus, the subway operator companies.


Based on the industries of urban rail transportation and integrated transportation, the research topics in this department cover the areas of urban rail transit planning and operations, integrated transport structure optimization, urban traffic optimization and intellectualization, simulation of urban rail transportation system, transportation system energy conservation, sustainable development and many other areas. Under this circumstance, the department has formulated research-based teaching and training platform.


In recent five years, the department has conducted nearly 20 research projects of National 973 Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National 863 Plan, 4 projects of international cooperation ,18 the Ministry of Education for New Century Excellent Talents Scheme and the key project of Ministry of Railways. In addition, the department has honored 2 National Excellent Courses, published 5 National Scheduled Textbooks and the provincial excellent textbooks, published nearly 200 academic papers, including more than 20 papers indexed by SCI, 70 papers indexed by EI. The Department of Urban Rail Traffic has honored 1 time of the second of the National Science Award, 1 time of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology for 1 second prize and 1 third prize respectively , 1 time of the second prize from Railway Institute of Technology , 1time of the second prize of National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 time of the first prize of Beijing Teaching Achievement Award, 1 National Invention Patent, 1 Beijing Distinguished Teacher and 1 Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award. The undergraduates in this department also achieved 2 national awards and 2 provincial awards. The department is also in charge of the journal of Transportation Systems Engineering and Information, international conferences ICTTS, and the High-level Forum of China Transportation.

Department of Logistics Engineering was started to build in October l0th, 2011. Currently, 9 staff is engaged in the department, including 3 professors, 4 Associate Professors and 2 Lecturers. Among them, 3 staff is Doctoral tutors and 7 staff is Master tutors. Meanwhile, 7 staff is Doctoral degree holders and 2 staff is Master degree holders.


Department of Logistics Engineering is mainly responsible for tutoring undergraduate students in Logistics Engineering, graduate students in Transportation and Logistics, Planning and Management in Traffic and Transportation, System Engineering, Intelligent Traffic Engineering, Safety Technology and Engineering, Traffic Safety Engineering those 6 areas, which focus on training personnel in both management and technology for the national logistics industry. This department has chaired or participated in seven National Science and Technology Support Programs, one national "973” program, two national "863” program, eight National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, and several national or provincial research projects. Hundreds of papers were published in SCI, El and ISTP. Meanwhile, five national invention patents were invented; more than 20 computer software copyrights. 15 academic works and 5 national or provincial scientific & technological progress awards were achieved. Fruitful outputs have been received in Modern Logistics Management and transport, Theories and Methods of Logistics System Planning, Technology and Management in Modern Logistics Information, and Management in Modern Logistics & Supply Chain.

Institute of systems science, established in 2001, after more than 10 years of construction, has been formulated under the lead of Changjiang Scholars and Outstanding Yang Scholars and the backbone of the National Excellent Youth, the Talents of the New Century, and the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation winner. This institute has a reasonable high-level disciplinary structure which composed of 15 members (4 professors. 7 associate professors and senior engineers. 4 assistant professors and all members own doctoral degrees including 1 Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor. 1 Changjiang Scholar Chair Professor. 1 National Outstanding Youth Scholar. 6 the Ministry of Education New Century Excellent talents.2 winners of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation (one hundred). 1 winner of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Nova Program and the Henry Fok foundation of young teachers. In this institute, the current major areas of research include the theory of road traffic flow modeling, analysis and control, traffic flow management and induction of the road network, complexity theory and methods for transportation systems and rail transportation system modeling and simulation.


The Systems Science Institute is primarily responsible for the planning and construction of the first-level discipline of systems science and also participate in the construction of the first-level disciplines of transportation engineering and control science and engineering and the construction of the Rail Traffic Control and Safety National Key Laboratory and MOE Key Laboratory for Transportation Complex Systems Theory and Technology. It also owns a post-doctoral research station of the first-level discipline of systems science. The mentioned first-level discipline which is constructed by the institute, are ranked first during the national-level disciplinary assessment in 2004 and 2008 and achieved the Beijing key first-level discipline in 2012. In addition, Prof. Gao. Ziyou is the academic leader of the institute. As the instructor he has trained 2 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation winners. In recent years, this institute conducted 1 of the “973” projects(Chief scientist),1 ”973” projects 1 Innovation Team Support Projects of the Ministry of Education,1 of the key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China,1 of the National Outstanding Youth Scholar, more than 20 of the National Natural science.


Foundation/Youth projects and conducted/participated more than 40 projects of national and provincial levels. This institute also achieved the second prize of the National Natural Science (first prize vacancies), 1 time of the first and second prizes of natural sciences from Ministry of Education respectively. 1 time of the Science and Technology Progress Award from the Ministry of Education, 2 times of second prizes of Beijing Science and technology and one time for the third prize, 1 time of the second prize of Anhui Science and Technology. The institute also won 4 national patents, and published 8 academic books and 300 SCI-indexed papers.

The Institute of Systems Engineering and Control was established in 1986, which once was an important component of the Institute of Management Science, Institute of Applied Systems Analysis and Institute of Automation. In the same year, the specialty of system engineering obtained the right to grant master’s degree, and grant doctor’s degree in 1996. The institute currently has twenty-six faculties with six professors, eight associate professors, ten instructors, five doctoral supervisors and nine master supervisors.


The institute is undertaking the teaching and cultivation of post-graduate master and doctoral students spread seven specialties: systems engineering, intelligent transportation systems engineering, transportation and logistics, transportation planning and management, safety technology and engineering, urban traffic engineering, and systems analysis and integration. In recent years, the institute has taken charged of five National 863 Plan project, participated in two National 973 Plan project, fifteen NKTRDPs during the tenth five-year plan period of China, twelve National Natural Science Foundations of China, and many provincial level programs. Besides these the institute faculties have published more than three hundred academic papers, twenty-two monographs or textbooks, six national invention patents and thirty-six computer software copyrights. Moreover, the institute has achieved several scientific and technological progress awards at provincial or ministerial level, and has made remarkable achievements in research and application areas of traffic and transportation systems engineering, intelligent transportation systems engineering, management systems engineering, information and control systems engineering, logistic systems engineering and environment systems engineering.
