On December 5, 2020, the first seminar on "new demands of civil aviation talent development in the new context" was held at the School of Traffic and Transportation of Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU). More than 30 experts and leaders from CAAC and civil aviation enterprises and institutions were invited to attend the meeting. Wang Jiaqiong, president of Beijing Jiaotong University, and Yang Guoqing, former deputy head of Civil Aviation Administration of China, attended the meeting and delivered speeches respectively. Professor Zhang Xingchen, former vice president of BJTU, and Professor Yao Enjian, Secretary of the Party Committee of BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation, respectively presided over the two stages of the meeting.
BJUT president Wang Jiaqiong delivered a welcome speech to leaders and experts from the civil aviation transportation industry who attended the meeting and discussed "the new demands of civil aviation talent development in the new context". In order to meet the new demands of talent training for the construction of modern comprehensive transportation system, BJUT approved the accession of the civil aviation transportation program to the School of Traffic and Transportation based on the existing transportation specialties in 2015, and officially incorporated the newly added program into the BJUT enrollment plan in 2017. With the joint efforts of all faculty members and students as well as the support from all walks of life, the civil aviation transportation program has developed to a considerable size after three years of practice. The formal setup of the Department of Civil Aviation Transportation marks the initial establishment on campus of a transportation personnel development system covering railway, road, aviation and other transportation modes, which will serve as a powerful personnel buildup mechanism for the mission of building China into an aviation power.
Yang Guoqing spoke highly of BJTU’s outstanding position in the "Transportation Engineering" discipline ranking (ranking first worldwide for 3 consecutive years) and the "System Science" discipline ranking (always ranking first) in the four rounds of national discipline evaluation. He pointed out that this would lay a good systematic and methodological foundation for the development and in-depth research of intelligent civil aviation. He suggested that the civil aviation personnel development of Beijing Jiaotong University should bring into full play the comprehensive advantages of transportation disciplines and the background of BJTU as a science and engineering institution, and explore to develop a training mode of civil aviation talents at the master and doctoral levels through "the Research Center of Smart Civil Aviation Development" and the dual tutorial mechanism.
Gao Jun, deputy director of CAAC's Comprehensive Department, delivered a keynote speech titled "Several Issues Concerning Talent Development of Civil Aviation", in which he analyzed the talent demand gap of the industry, and suggested that the civil aviation transportation program of Beijing Jiaotong University should have a correct positioning and seek differential development.
Nie Lei, Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation, introduced the School and the civil aviation program, noting that the establishment of the Department of Civil Aviation Transportation marked an important milestone in the development of transportation program. In the future, the School will bring its disciplinary advantages into full play to meet the new demands of civil aviation talent development in the new context. In order to contribute its share of strength to building a transportation power, unremitting efforts will be made to develop featured programs, facilitate talent development, and foster high-quality and inter-disciplinary professionals who are competent in innovation, management and teamwork.
During the convention, an unveiling ceremony was held for the " Department of Civil Aviation Transportation" and the " Research Center for Smart Civil Aviation Development". President Wang Jiaqiong and Professor Yang Guoqing unveiled the nameplates together.
Professor Yang Guoqing was engaged as the honorary director of the Research Center, and presented with the Letter of Appointment by President Wang Jiaqiong.
