The 8th International Symposium on Railway Operations Research was successfully held

During December 3rd -4th, 2022, the 8th International Symposium on Railway Operations Research (ISROR), organized by the School of Traffic and Transportation, the State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety, the School of Civil Engineering, and the Railway Transportation Committee of the China Railway Society, was successfully held online. Professor Xuedong Yan, Vice President of Beijing Jiaotong University, Professor Lei Nie, Dean of the School of Transportation, Professor Ingo Arne Hansen, Founding Chairman of the International Association of Railway Operations Research, and Professor Rob Goverde, the Chairman of IAROR, attended opening ceremony. The symposium was hosted by Professor Yun Bai, Vice dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Xuedong Yan, on behalf of Beijing Jiaotong University, welcomed the guests, experts and participants, introduced the history and vision of Beijing Jiaotong University, said that the international symposium on railway operations research would help to promote the establishment of substantive cooperation between universities and worldwide experts. Moreover, Yan welcomed domestic and foreign institutions to join the "Global Association of Universities for Sustainable Transport (GAUST)" established by Beijing Jiaotong University, and encouraged experts to express their insights and wished the conference a complete success.

Professor Lei Nie introduced the development of the School of Traffic and Transportation from the aspects of historical origin, professional construction, international cooperation and students exchange, welcomed all experts and participants to carry out substantive cooperation with STTto help build a world-class and high-level research school with distinctive characteristics as well. Professor Rob Goverde fully affirmed the preparatory work of the Organizing Committee, expressed warm welcome to participants from different countries, and encouraged all participants to deepen academic exchanges.

With the theme of "Railway Transportation Organization Technology in Metropolitan Area", this symposium invited 15 world famous experts from ten countries and regions, including China, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Russia and Indonesia, to make presentations on the conference. The experts are Francesca Pagliara, associate professor of Federico II University in Naples, Italy; Christian Liebchen, professor of University of Applied Science and Technology of Waldo, Germany; Dewei Li, professor of Beijing Jiaotong University; Rob Goverde, professor of Delft University of Technology, Netherlands; Ingo Hansen, professor of Delft University of Technology, Netherlands; Boris I. Davydov, professor of Far Eastern State Transport University; Senior Researcher of CRIC Project Team Hermanto Dwiatmoko in Indonesia; Associate professor Xuesong Zhou of the University of Arizona in the United States; Academician William Powrie of the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom; Associate Professor Steven Harrod o; the Technical University of Denmark; Giorgio Medeossi, founder of TRENOlab in Italy, Academician Junyi Zhang of Hiroshima University in Japan; Professor Anita Sch ö bel of Kaiserslautern University of Technology in Germany; Professor Lei Chen of the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and Professor Christopher Barkan of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, they gave a series of wonderful reports on intelligent railway signal system, digital twin technology, traffic management under the COVID-19 pandemic, integration optimization and sequence optimization in public transportation, etc.

Finally, Professor Ingo Arne Hansen delivered a speech on the closing ceremony. Professor Hansen summarized the speeches of the experts attending the symposium, congratulated the successful convening of ISROR, explained that the holding of the international symposium on railway operations research has far-reaching significance for scientific research and the development of the railway industry, and is full of expectations for the next symposium.

The conference attracted more than 400 attendees from over 20 universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises, including Beijing Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Central South University, East China Jiaotong University, Shijiazhuang Tiedao University, University of Leeds, University of Birmingham and JST Logistics Co., Ltd.
