BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation and Delft University of Technology Jointly Hold Academic Exchange Event

On September 24, 2025, BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation successfully held the "BJTU & TU Delft Academic Exchange Event" in Room 8415 of Building 8. The event featured visits and presentations by two distinguished professors from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft): Associate Professor Shadi Sharif Azadeh from the Department of Transport & Planning, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, and Professor Yousef Maknoon from the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. They delivered academic reports and engaged in in-depth discussions with faculty and students. Professor Tang Yuanjie, Vice Dean of the school, attended the welcome ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the two professors on behalf of the school. The academic sharing session was hosted by faculty member Guo Rongge. The exchange forum garnered widespread attention and active participation from faculty and students, including Professors Dong Chunjiao, Ma Jihui, Chen Xumei, and many others.

During the academic exchange session, Professor Shadi Sharif Azadeh delivered a report titled "Designing and Optimizing Services for Food Delivery Platforms: Integrated Decision-Making on Product Portfolio, Dynamic Sequencing, and Rider Assignment." She proposed an innovative joint optimization framework capable of simultaneously determining restaurant product portfolios and rider dispatch to maximize overall platform profit while ensuring service quality. She further shared her research on dynamic decision-making under congestion and fairness constraints, demonstrating how fairness-aware rider assignment and sequencing mechanisms can improve delivery efficiency while considering fairness for the rider group. This research not only offers significant insights for platform operation models but also provides ideas for the practical application of instant delivery and diversified mobility services.

Subsequently, Professor Yousef Maknoon presented a report on "Context-Aware Product Portfolio Design for Mobility Platforms: A Regret-Based Optimization Approach." He introduced the concept of context-aware product optimization within transportation and logistics platforms, proposing a research framework based on the Generalized Random Regret Minimization (G-RRM) model. This framework better explains behavioral phenomena such as the "attraction effect" and "compromise effect," which are difficult to capture using traditional utility maximization models. Professor Maknoon further demonstrated how incorporating behavioral sensitivity indicators to account for the dynamics of user decision-making preferences can enhance the scientific rigor and robustness of platform service solutions. Using numerical experiments, he vividly illustrated the application prospects of his research in optimizing transportation and instant logistics services.

During the interactive session, faculty and students actively participated, raising questions and discussing the model methodologies, application prospects, and their potential integration with the domestic transportation and logistics fields. The attendees highly praised the research achievements of the two professors and proposed ideas for future collaboration. Students enthusiastically asked questions related to their own research and studies, and the two professors patiently provided answers, sharing insights from cutting-edge research. The atmosphere was lively and engaging.

This forum provided a valuable opportunity for faculty and students to access internationally leading research findings. It also laid a solid foundation for future academic collaboration between BJTU and TU Delft in areas such as intelligent transportation, platform optimization, and smart logistics.
