Head of International Office at Wildau University of Applied Sciences Visits BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation

On the morning of October 23, 2024, Ms. Karin Schmidt, Head of the International Office at Wildau University of Applied Sciences in Germany, visited BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation. The meeting was attended by Prof MENG Lingyun, Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation; Prof TAN Yuyan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs at Beijing Jiaotong University; and Dr TANG Yuanjie, Vice Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation.

Dean MENG Lingyun extended a warm welcome to Ms. Karin Schmidt. He noted that the School had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Wildau University of Applied Sciences at the end of August this year. He expressed his hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further promote the implementation of the agreement, deepen innovative cooperation models, facilitate the joint establishment of research platforms, and enhance the integration of scientific research and education, thereby providing strong support for scientific research and talent cultivation for both institutions.

Prof TAN Yuyan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs at Beijing Jiaotong University, introduced the university's distinctive features, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and international exchanges. She emphasized that the university places great importance on international collaboration and actively promotes the internationalization of education, noting that the Office of International Affairs has launched several faculty and student exchange programs this year. She expressed strong expectations for cooperation with Wildau University of Applied Sciences to promote two-way mobility of faculty and students between the two institutions.

Professor TANG Yuanjie, Vice Dean of BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation, provided an overview of the School's talent cultivation, scientific research, and international cooperation and exchanges. He expressed hope that, building on the existing collaboration, both sides would continue to leverage their respective disciplinary strengths and characteristics to further deepen substantive cooperation between the two universities.

Ms. Karin Schmidt introduced the general profile of Wildau University of Applied Sciences. She highly appreciated the past achievements in exchanges and cooperation between BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation and Wildau University, expressed her willingness to continue actively promoting mutual visits and exchanges between the two institutions, and hoped to develop more collaborations with Beijing Jiaotong University. She also invited more scholars and students to participate in relevant exchange programs.

The two sides exchanged views on short-term student exchange programs, Sino-foreign joint talent cultivation, and joint scientific research, laying the foundation for further deepening cooperation and exploring new models of international collaboration.

Established in 1897, Wildau University of Applied Sciences is one of Germany's earliest universities of applied sciences. It primarily focuses on industry-related teaching and research, specializing in cultivating elite engineers with an emphasis on applicability and practicality.

 

In August this year, BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation signed an MoU with the university's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The agreement aims to leverage the respective disciplinary strengths and high-quality resources of both institutions through faculty and student exchanges and joint scientific research, thereby enhancing academic cooperation and exchanges in the field of transportation and jointly promoting industrial development in related areas. It also seeks to cultivate high-quality professionals with broad international perspectives who can meet the latest industry demands.
