In November 2016, Container Owners Association (COA) nominated Beijing Jiaotong University’s as a Flexitank Rail Impact Test Center. This is the third testing center of this type worldwide.
The principle aims of the COA are to provide a service to its Members, including the Development of Industry Standards – with the aim of promoting industry efficiency. Flexitank is one of its Work Groups. A flexitank is a large bladder with valve(s) that is designed to fit inside a general-purpose freight container and operate as part of a system which includes the container, flexitank, its fittings and restraining system. The global use of flexitank systems has grown substantially in recent years. Each flexitank model and design type shall undergo a rail impact test, PAS 1008:2016 specification for the performance and testing of a flexitank.
Railway Goods Loading and Securing Research and Consultation Center of Beijing Jiaotong University undertook the application and coordination work for the testing center more than a year. During this period, COA Flexitank Test Standard Seminar was held in Netherlands. COA experts, committee members and representatives of enterprises from various countries spoke highly of BJTU’s work.
