From 26 to 29 January 2026, a delegation led by Dean Lingyun Meng of the School of Traffic and Transportation, Beijing Jiaotong University, visited Delft University of Technology for in-depth discussions on Sino-Dutch collaboration in education and research.
The meetings were chaired by Yufei Yuan and attended by Stefan Aarninkhof, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. A number of course leaders and core faculty members also participated in dedicated sessions on curriculum development and joint teaching. Prof. Yufei Yuan reviewed the achievements of the Joint Program and the cooperation experience of both sides in areas such as joint curriculum development and faculty exchanges. Prof. Stefan Aarninkhof emphasized the significance of the collaboration from a global perspective, highlighting its role in cultivating internationally competitive talent. Prof. Lingyun Meng presented an annual overview of the Joint Program and proposed specific ideas for further optimizing the curriculum system and strengthening joint student training. Prof. Junhua Chen proposed specific measures and suggestions regarding student development and curriculum collaboration between both parties, aiming to facilitate course implementation and teaching continuity.

At the roundtable, both sides discussed issues related to curriculum development and talent cultivation. Representatives from TU Delft elaborated on the current progress of collaborative courses and outlined issues requiring further coordination. The two sides exchanged views on key aspects of course implementation and explored feasible pathways to enhance collaborative teaching.
BJTU & TU Delft Joint Educational Program Management Committee was also held to communicate and coordinate specific matters related to the cooperation. Discussions centered on the operational mechanisms and follow-up arrangements of the Joint Program, exchange thoughts on the 2026 student study tour and the upcoming teachers’ visit to TU Delft.

On the theme of research cooperation, the two sides exchanged views on frontier topics including intelligent transport systems, public transport, and railway operations management. Prof. Xiaojie Luan introduced the overview of research directions and teams at BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation while Prof. Niels van Oort gave an overview of research labs in T&P, and research on public transportation in TUD.
During the Railway session, professors from both institutions also exchanged ideas on train operation adjustment and disruption management, outlining several promising avenues for future collaboration.
The visit signaled a transition from project-based cooperation to a more structured and institutionalized partnership, providing a strong foundation for sustained collaboration in talent development and research innovation in the transportation domain.
