At the opening of the meeting, Professor Lingyun Meng and Professor Rob Goverde delivered remarks on behalf of the two universities, reviewing the progress achieved by the BJTU-TUD Joint Program over the past year and expressing high expectations for the continued deepening of pragmatic cooperation between the two institutions in the field of transport and transportation.

Subsequently, Professor Yuyan Tan, on behalf of the School, presented the annual work report, systematically reviewing the achievements of the Joint Program over the past year in student recruitment and cultivation, curriculum system development, teaching quality assessment, enhancement of student satisfaction, and two-way faculty and student exchange.
During the discussion session, the two sides held thorough exchanges on core agenda items including the Joint Program’s next-phase development plan, enrolment scale optimization, and curriculum and faculty support. They reached consensus on key work plans such as the joint development of a course management system and faculty exchange visits, further clarifying the direction and pathway for the high-quality and sustainable development of the Joint Program.

The day after the Board Meeting, the welcome event for the 2026 cohort of the BJTU-TUD Joint Program was successfully held in the Lecture Hall of the Equipment Building of the School of Traffic and Transportation. Professor Yuyan Tan, together with TU Delft professors Rob Goverde and Yufei Yuan, attended and addressed the event, which was chaired by Professor Xiaojie Luan, Head of the Joint Program working group. All members of the working group and the entire 2026 cohort were present. On behalf of the BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation, Professor Yuyan Tan welcomed the new students and introduced the history of cooperation between the two universities and the positioning of the Joint Program. The two TU Delft professors presented TU Delft’s academic heritage and the research strengths of its Transport and Planning Department, and gave a detailed explanation of the Joint Program’s joint cultivation model and the pathways available to students for future study. The new students introduced themselves in turn and actively interacted with the Dutch professors and School faculty on topics including coursework and overseas exchange, creating a lively and congenial atmosphere. The event further consolidated consensus among faculty and students, carried the outcomes of the Board Meeting through to the front line of education, helped the new students clarify their development direction, and laid a solid foundation for the next phase of talent cultivation within the Joint Program.

TU Delft is ranked 47th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. Recognized as one of Europe’s leading universities of technology, it is renowned worldwide for its engineering disciplines. Its transport-related fields have long remained in the world’s first tier, and its research outcomes underpin transport policy and engineering practice in countries across the globe. The two universities launched this partnership between two leading institutions, the BJTU-TUD Joint Program, in 2017. Since its establishment, the Joint Program has focused both on cultivating top-tier, globally competitive talent and on serving as a platform for introducing world-class educational resources, advancing “internationalization at home” while simultaneously enhancing the quality and efficiency of teaching and research. The Joint Program has produced 289 graduates to date, with outstanding educational outcomes: an overall further-study rate of 79%, and 84% of the 136 graduates pursuing studies abroad entering universities ranked among the world’s top 50 by QS. Building on this cooperation platform, the two universities conduct regular teaching and research interactions and have jointly organized the Sino-Dutch Cooperation Symposium for in-depth exchange on smart transport and engineering education. Since 2025, TU Delft has made 16 visits to China, during which its staff discussed teaching models and classroom methods with faculty of the BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation. This November, the BJTU School of Traffic and Transportation will select six faculty members to travel to the Netherlands for in-class observation and study, continuing to translate advanced international teaching concepts and high-quality resources into momentum for the substantive development of the School.
